WHAT IS A CONSERVATIONIST?
The general dictionary definition of conservation is ‘One that practices or advocates conservation, especially of natural resources.
Conservationists are often described as ‘bunny huggers’ a strange term as I very rarely see people ‘hugging bunnies’. If you care about the environment and practice conservation this is often a label that is freely given and often spoken in a way that you would have thought someone was describing a ‘god awful person’.
Many conservationists are too busy saving rhino’s, elephants, tiger’s, gorilla’s, whales, sharks, turtles, natural areas to be spending time have a bit of a hug! These are the people who are fighting to ensure that every species on this amazing planet has the opportunity of survival and that includes humans. The later is generally the reason why these green warrior’s have such a busy schedule.
The big question is where would we be without these people. What if nobody actually cared?
What if nobody thought twice about where their rubbish goes, or how damaging carbon emissions are, or the fact that there are many energy sources provided by nature that we can easily use such as solar power. What if we just stood by as the poachers shot the last rhino or hunted the last elephant. What sort of world would we be living in? It is an unimaginable situation. But it is heading that way more than 1,000 species become extinct every year. We are the only species in the history of our planet that is contributing to our own extinction.
We are living in a world full of people who care only for themselves and their own survival. But I have a message for you without these ‘greenies’ there truly is no chance of survival, not for the human race anyway. Mother Nature will heal once we are long gone and her planet will no doubt once again thrive. So wake up, start caring and maybe even try a hug once in a while.
Sarah – Ulovane Environmental Training
Thank you Sarah – for telling it how it is!
I am definitely a conservationist – I am happy to save the planet and all its beauty! Love hugging trees, truly enjoy a beautiful African sunset, saddened by the destruction of natural forests, HORRIFIED by the poaching of RHINOS, elephants, tigers and all these creatures that were here before us humans! If everyone cared just a little, together we can make a difference!
Until next time,
Candice and the Ulovane Team
